This Guided Reading course is designed for readers in 1st grade and 2nd grade that could benefit from extra practice with reading, sight words, and phonics skills. This class uses Level I Guided Reading passages. Level I is typically at the end of first grade and beginning of second grade. My goal is to help readers gain confidence in their skills in an engaging and relaxed environment by providing an encouraging space to explore letter sounds, sight words, and fluency. By keeping these classes small I am able to give each student the opportunity to participate throughout class and practice reading independently.

Each class has three components: 
A) Challenging Word Practice: We will go over any new or challenging words at the beginning of each class. These are words that are found in the reading passage of the week. 

B) Guided Reading: Each class will feature a new reading passage. We will start by making connections with the text and doing a picture walk. Students will practice reading the story together. We will go over any challenging words. Once the learners have had the opportunity to read through the text together, they will practice reading one at a time to work on fluency. 

C) Word Work: At the end of each class (if time allows) we will work on different phonics skills including digraphs, blends, and vowel combinations.
