What's included
3 live meetings
5 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this course, we will be meeting 3 times for 50 minutes for 1 week. We will be learning about chemistry principles such as density, gas, carbon dioxide, energetics, and entropy. The students will observe how all of these principles work together or separately to create a fun and safe at-home lava lamp experience. The first class session will begin with a short intro of myself and the students before engaging in a brief Prezi presentation (link provided) created by myself which includes a short Youtube animation by a professor named John Pollard from the University of Arizona. Then we will briefly discuss the video as well as the learnings discussed in the Prezi presentation. After the first session, students will be expected to have a general understanding of chemistry principles such as density, gas, carbon dioxide, energetics, and entropy. During this session, homework will be assigned in order for each learner to be properly prepared for the next class session. Our second class session will consist of a brief review of our learnings in the first session and homework that was assigned. During this session, the learners will be required to participate in 3-4 simple quizzes to demonstrate their knowledge of the material discussed. We will spend time thoroughly going over the results from the quizzes and discuss our findings. The third session will consist of a brief review of our past 2 class sessions. Next, we will perform our experiment where the learners will observe how all of these chemistry principles such as density, gas, carbon dioxide, energetics, and entropy work together or separately to create a fun and safe at-home lava lamp experience.
Learning Goals
Students will be encouraged to explore the many ways that chemistry plays a vital role in understanding our environment. We will be learning about chemistry principles such as density, gas, carbon dioxide, energetics, and entropy. The students will observe how all of these principles work together or separately to create a fun and safe at-home lava lamp experience.
