3 in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class we will discuss the topic of character and the character principle of attentiveness. Class will meet for 4 weeks, once a week, for 45 minutes and in class, we will have opportunities to discuss honesty and the many topics surrounding the character quality. During class, will learn how being attentive applies to life, how to encourage others to be attentive, and how it involves more than just "listening". To help learners understand the concept more thoroughly, I will introduce attentiveness through the study of science/nature and history. In class 2, will learn about deer, their habitat, body language, and how they can teach us to be attentive. In class 3, we will learn about George Washington Carver and how his attentiveness to his work and those around him helped him succeed. During the 4 classes we will read books, make crafts, and have time to discuss ideas. We will also memorize a poem to help connect learners with this concept. I will also have some optional materials that parents might want to review to continue learning about this topic after our class has ended.. Our class structure will be similar to the following... Class 1: Introductions, learning about character, defining attentiveness, and activity Class 2: Learning about deer and attentiveness - book reading and activity Class 3: Learning about George Washington Carver and attentiveness- book reading and activity Class 4: Learning how to apply attentiveness into real life situations - book reading and activity *Crafts involve simple basics of paper or paper plates, crayons or markers, and scissors.

All activities will require things that most homes have... glue, construction paper, ruler, and the like. If these are unavailable, we will improvise! Books read in class will NOT need to be purchased by parents. Books that are recommended for further study are optional.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught this class to different groups at a cooperative, for both lower and upper elementary students. I enjoy teaching a subject or principle and including different areas of study along with the original idea. I have trained in a non credited format, for many years, with an author and speaker who specializes in teaching children character.
I am a homeschool mom that has taught American History, Biology, and Life Skills for 3 years in a cooperative setting. I have also tutored 3rd-5th graders in Math, Science, and History through an after school program. Though I have a biology background academically, I enjoy many subjects and having fun!
