🌞 Hello and welcome! 🎓 As an experienced kindergarten teacher, I know just how to engage your young learner - with magic,💥of course! This fun and skill-building class will feature new concepts each day. The small class size ensures that each child has several opportunities to share and respond during each meeting. This class is also excellent for ESL students. At the beginning of each class students have an opportunity to share a toy, pet, drawing or story. I encourage interaction with me and their classroom friends! 🪁 So much more than just the memorization of information, The Magic Closet seeks to create an environment where children love to learn. Every skill is introduced in a way that scaffolds learning while having fun. Students practice using their imaginations as well as their eyes and ears to learn sounds and expand vocabulary. So much learning happens while students are moving and giggling! 👑 As we delve into "The Magic Closet" we will find an alphabet letter, color and shape of the day, sing a happy song or read-aloud story, practice numbers and math, and even discover a "mystery object" to engage our thinking skills. Sometimes we'll have special guests (puppets) and furry friends in class. We'll learn the phonetic sound of our letter as a building block to beginning reading, count items as a tactile application of our daily number, and often introduce STEM concepts through our "mystery" items (magnifying glass, plant, ramps, bubbles etc.). If the letter of the day is a vowel, we will learn both the long and short sounds of that letter. We will draw our shape and letter of the day and make an animal drawing using this shape and our daily color. Our read-aloud stories will be an opportunity to make predictions, answer comprehension questions and consider the sequence of events 📚 Our Current Schedule: Oct: 2: Letter F - Frog Life Cycle! My name is Tina Cowell and I'm an experienced teacher and principal with 20 years in the classroom. I enjoy teaching students of all ages: preschoolers, kindergarten students who are just learning to reading, as well as graduating high school seniors. I have six years of online teaching experience, particularly with preschool and kindergarten-age children, and know how to keep students engaged throughout a virtual class. As a career teacher and elementary school administrator, I believe all students can be engaged and inspired by an open and relaxed approach to reading. My classes are built around student engagement, interaction and comfort, and encourage a love of reading and discovery. We always have a lot of fun! I have experience with learners on the spectrum, as well as those in gifted programs. I am accustomed to and welcome those who are learning English as a second or third language. I am also sensitive to those who are adjusting to the virtual classroom and just wish to listen. Please reach out to me with any questions you may have.
