Class Experience

Subject: Commonly used contractions
Contractions are shortened forms of words and introduction of the apostrophe and why it is used.
We will first go over the basic contraction of words and how to spell them correctly then apply them to different sentence structures. We will then create a story using the contractions verbally.
I like to have fun in class so the story telling method will require them to use the contractions learned in a story. Each student will say a sentence using a contraction. The next student will use a contraction in a sentence to continue the story and so on. It will be fun to see what story they create as they develop more confidence using the contractions in speech. I will put the sentences spoken from the story on the screen for them to see. They will be typed exactly how each student says the sentence. Students will then peer review their story and make changes to the story. They will then tell the story again if time permits.
Students need basic reading and writing skills for their age and grade level. I will support each student pertaining to their needs during the lesson.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to form and use contractions in written and spoken form. Contractions include: isn’t, aren’t, haven’t, hasn’t, didn’t, don’t, doesn’t, you’re, I’m, etc.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach reading for comprehension. I want students to be able to comprehend and analyze different forms of text and visual presentations from textbooks to social media. Students should be able to take what they learn from different types of text and visual presentations and create their own forms of text and visual presentations. I employ different forms of technology including PowerPoint, Canva, web design, video, YouTube, social media, etc. I also ask students to use other materials from paper to poster board to present their ideas. I have been teaching online for two years and have taught over 6,000 classes to students ranging in age from 4 to 18. I have also taught grades K through 12 in the traditional classroom as a substitute and as a regular teacher for ten years. I love animals. I have 2 dogs, one cat, and two horses. I have trained and ridden horses for 47 years and taught children horsemanship for over 20 years. My son is in college now and pursuing a degree in psychology. I am now an empty nester and look forward to teaching online full time. I own my own business which completely focuses on educating both children and teachers. I love to help people learn so that they can thrive and help others in the world. Come join me!
