I am here to take the guess work out of reading! Reading should never be a guessing game, and the answer is systematic phonics instruction. As a licensed, Learn Reading Instructor, I have access to a complete curriculum that covers extensive practice opportunities using carefully controlled text. For struggling readers, this is essential. For new and beginning readers, this will allow your child to read quicker, and with more accuracy at an early stage. 

This curriculum is based on the popular and effective, Orton-Gillingham Approach, where direct instruction is given teaching explicit letter-sound connections. Every lesson is individually paced and flexible. In addition to that, I place a strong emphasis on phonemic awareness, sight words, controlled blending, and fluency. 

And, your child won't hate it! One, they will enjoy the success of READING! And secondly, I keep everything hands on and game based. 

What is covered each week?
Phonemic awareness activities, phonemes (sounds) are taught and/or reviewed, controlled blending, one sight word taught (and sight word review), vocabulary, and sentences.
* Please note that as this curriculum is designed to be flexible and adaptive to each student, some weeks may not cover every single skill mentioned above. As the lessons progress, each skill will be touched on in a cyclical manner. 

Due to the fact that this class is hands on, and multisensory, I do ask that your child comes to class with the required printouts, a pencil, and at times a highlighter. However, rest assured that this will not be all "pencil and paper" in class! There may be times where your child has a chance to "act out" (only if they want to and are comfortable with it), draw, and play games. Even when they are using a pencil, it's usually just to "dot" or circle the words as they read. 

This curriculum is for all ages and levels, however, if you have a very young child who is an absolute beginner, I recommend a different course. Do you have a 3-6 year old that is just starting to learn the basic sounds of the alphabet? Or maybe they know the majority of the letter sounds, but are still in that early stage of trying to blend sounds together? I encourage you to please check out my other listings first. I discovered that I had a passion for teaching 15 years ago. It was at that time that I taught my oldest daughter, then 4, to read. I loved it! I have dedicated the past 14 years of my life to all things reading - researching, working with professionals, and tutoring. I have gone on to tutor several children one on one, and in small group class settings. I have helped many children learn to read, and have fun while doing it. 

I believe, and have seen first hand, that children learn best when they are happy, engaged, and having fun! My goal is to put a smile on your child's face, and perhaps even get a laugh or two. When your child feels good, they can and will learn many things.
