What's included

1 in-class hoursClass Experience
In this course, students will get an overview of what it takes to build captivating worlds intended for the screen, gaming, and literature. Together we’ll break down the process of constructing fictional universes that resonate with an international audience. This course will not only inspire creativity but also provide students with practical skills applicable to various creative fields. There will be follow up courses in the future that provide a deeper dive into each world building component. In this class we we will learn how to: 1) create engaging environments that enhance the storytelling experience and capture viewers' imagination, 2) develop dynamic characters through backstories, motivations, and relationships, 3) craft believable societies that showcase the intricacies of societal structures, norms, and customs, and how they shape the characters' interactions, identities and narratives, and 4) establish consistent rules within the world to ensure plausibility and coherence (we will also make the distinction between sci-fi and fantasy). My class is designed to blend creativity and critical thinking. Learners will engage in an interactive lecture and group discussion. They will brainstorm, develop, and pitch their ideas, while learning how to provide constructive feedback to their peers. There aren't any assignments, but my hope is that this workshop will help your student enhance whatever projects they are already creating.
