In this fast pace and high-energy class, students will practice interacting with each other while using common greetings and phrases in Japanese. We will be writing phrases together as we learn our new Japanese words and phrases. Students enjoy being tested regularly and repeatedly throughout class with their newly learned terms and phrases. Common greetings include: “My name is _____, nice to meet you, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night and goodbye”. Learners will take turns introducing themselves to each other in Japanese. We will also learn phrases like, “See you later! Thank you and you're welcome!" Learners practice communicating with each other by asking and answering, “Are you well? Yes, no, I am well". Students will practice pronunciation for target phrases. Each student will be encouraged to speak in class. I will use props such as: “the sun and moon” to help indicate the time of day. I often use singing and tones to help with memory and pronunciation. Students have the option to write the words and phrases on paper during class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Eastern Michigan University
I have been taking weekly Japanese language classes for the past four years. I am not an expert or fluent Japanese speaker. However, I was encouraged by my teacher (Yoshino Sensi) to teach Japanese. All of my classes are basic Japanese skills for beginners. I enjoy the language and learning about Japanese culture. My three children have also been taking Japanese classes for the past four years. We often play memory games and practice speaking with each other in Japanese.
