US Grade 1 - 4
In this exciting class, learners will use chemical reactions, concepts of life science, and the scientific method to predict how matter interacts with other matter. Is it Magic or Science? Here is a brief schedule of each experiment. Week of May 2nd: Soap Makes Germs Disappear - Magical Properties of Soap that Keep Us Safe. Week of May 9th: Make a Potion - Magic Potion Changes the Color of Liquids. Week of May 23th: Electricity - Electrons Carrying Charge Week of May 30th: Magic of Air Pressure Week of June 6th: Laws and Launching: Magic of Physics Week of June 13th: Magic Floating Beads Week of June 20th: Self Inflating Balloon - Magic of Gas Pressure Week of June 27th: Colorful Crystals Growing from Water - Magic of Supersaturation Week of July 11th: Will it Float? - Magic of Density, Buoyancy, and Viscosity Week of July 18th: Soap Makes Germs Disappear - Magical Properties of Soap that Keep Us Safe. Week of July 25th: Make a Potion - Magic Potion Changes the Color of Liquids. Week of Aug 1st: Electrons Carrying Charge Week of Aug 8th: Magic of Air Pressure Week of Aug 15th: Laws and Launching: Magic of Physics Week of Aug 22nd Magic Floating Beads Week of Aug 29th Week of June 20th: Self Inflating Balloon - Magic of Gas Pressure More topics to be added. Learners have the option to use the material list if they wish to complete the experiments with me. Learners will be able to interact and collaborate ideas with classmates during the class. Each will be encouraged to fully participate in each day's experiment.
Learning Goals
Students learn the methods of prediction, testing, recording results, and improvement. Students will be able to use hands-on activity using everyday items to create a fun and exciting experiments.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
If the students desire to complete experiments along with me, parental supervision/oversight is suggested. All supplies are safe and common household items, however, the sequence of events are important for experiment success and fun. Students and parents are advised that common latex balloons and household chemicals may cause sensitivity or allergy in some learners or individuals. Parental supervision and awareness of any allergies or other issues is encouraged.
Supply List
Master Supply List is messaged to the parent one the learner is enrolled.
1 file available upon enrollment
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Science from University of Alabama
Bachelor's Degree in Science from University of South Carolina
I am a middle school and high school math and science teacher with nine years of experience. Additionally, I am a homeschooling dad of 14+years who has four kids that are four different types of learners.
I have the privilege to teach many subject areas, but chemistry is my favorite as it applies to all other areas of science. My opinion is that if a student understands major chemical concepts, other sciences become more clear.
I hold a MS and BS in the natural sciences.
