Course Description: Introduction to Parliamentary Debate What will be taught? Students will learn the fundamentals of parliamentary-style debate, including constructing persuasive arguments, effective rebuttal techniques, public speaking skills, and critical thinking. By the end of the course, students will be confident in their ability to participate in structured debates. What topics will you cover? -Basic debate format and rules -Crafting strong arguments -Research and evidence integration -Case building -Rebuttals and refutations -Public speaking and delivery -Practice debates -Final debates and evaluations How is your class structured? The course spans 8 weeks, with each week focusing on a specific topic. Weeks alternate between learning new concepts and practicing through mock debates. The structure ensures a balance between theory and practical application, with ample opportunities for interactive learning. How will you teach? Lessons will be engaging and interactive, using a combination of lectures, games, slides, video clips, and discussions. Each week includes activities that reinforce the material taught, such as watching debate demonstrations, participating in mock debates, and receiving personalized feedback. What's your teaching style? My teaching style is inclusive, supportive, and interactive. I aim to create a dynamic learning environment where students feel comfortable to express themselves and engage actively. I emphasize practical application to ensure students grasp concepts thoroughly. How much will learners get to interact with you? Learners will have plenty of interaction with me through various activities, including lectures of core concepts and techniques, games and fun activities designed to reinforce learning in an engaging way, slides and video clips will be used as visual aids to enhance understanding, group discussions to explore different perspectives and deepen understanding, regular practice debates to apply learned skills, as well as individualized feedback to help each student improve. This course aims to be an exciting and comprehensive, ensuring every student feels empowered and ready to speak and debate with confidence.

Learning Needs
This course uses interactive, dynamic lessons for ADHD, visual aids for dyslexia, and structured routines for ASD. Everyone learns at their own pace, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment.

There are no pre-requisites for this course. It is recommended for students with minimal to no debate training.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Natalie is a former World Speech and Debate Champion, two-time International Speech and Debate Champion, and two-time Junior National Speech and Debate Champion. She is one of three students to represent Canada at four consecutive World Championships. Following a series of national and international tournaments held in South Africa, Lithuania, Dubai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Canada, and the United States, Natalie received a personalized letter of congratulations from the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and former Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne, in recognition of winning the World Championships and for exceptional Canadian youth leadership. As a coach, Natalie has developed students from beginners to globally ranked speakers. She currently splits her time between Toronto and Los Angeles, where she works as an executive speaking coach for the C-suite team at a large multinational company.
