This club will improve the communication skills of everyone involved. We will debate a different topic(s) each week to introduce everyone to new ideas and current events. Each 1 hour class will be structured as follows: 5 minutes: Teacher introduces debate topic, answers questions, and provides necessary background information on the topic. 10 minutes: Each club member gives their initial thoughts on the topic (for or against) 35 minutes: Teams are divided for vs. against and debate the topic (Teacher moderates debate) 10 minutes: Teacher provides constructive feedback on the communication and debating skills of the club members. *If a topic doesn't generate enough debate to last the entire time, another topic will be added for the remainder of the time.* As a college professor with a debate coaching background, my teaching style is to give praise where it is deserved and to provide constructive feedback to improve the abilities of all of my students. I always strive to have a welcoming and fun educational experience for all. This club will foster a sense of community among the members, as they will get to make new friends and improve social skills; all while improving their educational skills along the way! I have worked with all ages and always tailor the material to the age/experience level. Topics! December 3: All students should have daily chores. December 10: Every home should have a pet. December 17: Every student should play a musical instrument. January 7: School uniforms should be required. January 14: Year-round education is better for students. January 21: Physical Education should be required of all students throughout school. January 28: Junk food should be banned from schools. February 4: All students should be required to learn a foreign language in middle school. February 11: Children under 14 should not be allowed on social media sites. February 18: All students should be required to take a cooking class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I served as a debate coach for four years, as we became a nationally ranked debate team in our division. Since 2018, I have worked 1 on 1 and with small groups to improve debate performance for tournaments, as well as to help individuals improve their overall communication, critical thinking, and debate skills. I have judged debate at over 20 tournaments as well. I have taught online and this format works well for debate club.
