Introduction to Junior Mandarin: Beginner Part 2

Unit 1: What is this? Student will learn the term of “what is”= “Zhe shi” 这是 and be able to create the sentence by using the vocabularies taught in class. Such as “ what is this 这是什么/ zhe shi shen me”? This is TV/dian shi 电视. Unit 2: What is that? Student will learn the term of “ that is 那是…na shi” and be able to create sentence by using the term introduced by the teacher. Class activities such as drawing and matching game will be conducted during the session. Unit 3: Where is mom? In this session, student will be learning the term “where is” and be able to answer the questions. For example, where is mom? Mom is in the park. Unit 4: Where are you going? For this session, we will be focusing on extend the last week session by putting more words in the sentence. For example: where are you going? 你去哪里?I am going to the mall. 我去商店。Role play game will be conducted during the session. Also the student will be introducing the new characters such as 去 going,哪里 where,公园 park. Student will also be practicing writing the word in the session. Unit 5: How old are you? We learned the numbers in Part 1, and for this unit we are continuing the number by adding more words to the sentence. Such as how old are you, I am 5. New terms such as 几岁 ji sui,五岁 five will be practiced in the session. Student will be learning to write the numbers as well. A birthday song will be taught in the lesson. Unit 6: What do you like? For this session, teacher will help student to review what we learned in Part 1: color so that student could use the color to make the sentence. For example, what color do you like 你喜欢什么颜色; I like red我喜欢红色。Student will practice the writing e.g 红色 red,蓝色 blue. Also teacher will ask the student what food/ fruits they like the most. New characters will include fruits such as watermelon, banana, strawberry will be introduced in the session. Class time distribution: First 5 mins, we will review the last class content to help student warm up. 5-20 mins, teacher and student interact, teacher will distribute the class content. 20-30 mins student will get lots of practicing opportunities to enhance the learning. Last 5 mins, teacher will wrap up and answer questions if there is any. For these 6 weeks session, student will be practicing the dialogue and sentence building based on what we learned in Part 1. New learners are always welcome. Teaching will includes sentence teaching, character teaching and reading, writing practices by embedding game and activities such as guessing, matching, gap filling, and singing. The interaction between the teacher and students will be ongoing and throughout the whole lesson. Students will be given as many opportunities as possible to practice the target language in each lesson. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me.
Learning Goals
Through systematic study and training, students will have basic Chinese listening and speaking ability. Be able to correctly write the basic strokes of Chinese characters, be able to recognize and read Chinese characters in textbooks, be able to start some simple conversation and sentence building, so as to cultivate children's learning habit and interest in writing Chinese characters from the early age. This courses will also help to lay the foundation for the next stage of Chinese learning.

Youtube Mandarin songs and google doc including class content as well google jamboard will be used by the teacher for screen sharing purpose during the class.
Supply List
Students need to prepare two paper sheets as well as pen and pencils for the class learning.

Dear Friends and families,
Growing up in Nanjing, China, I finished high school before I came to Canada for further education. After finishing my bachelor's degree at York University, Toronto, Ontario, I went back to China and started my teaching journey in my hometown. To strengthen my teaching strategies, I have decided to get a Master's degree in Professional Education focusing on teaching abroad from Queens University. These wonderful learning experiences at Queens have strongly influenced my teaching philosophy and firmed my dream of devoting myself to K-12 education.
I have more than ten years of experience in teaching ESL students of various ages from English Speaking, Reading to Listening. I am also experienced in teaching Mandarin to students who have no Mandarin learning experiences to enjoy speaking a different language. I am a native Mandarin speaker and can teach multiple levels in Mandarin learning.
My teaching philosophy focuses on student success through an innovative, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Students’ success will be promoted through motivation, self-motivation, reflection, self-reflection and creativity to meet the needs for preparing students in understanding course required content and concepts.
I enjoy learning with students, having fun with them and love traveling and making new friends. Now, I am living in Toronto with my dear husband and son. I have a cute 2-year-old female Shih-poo dog at home. I am looking forward to meeting everyone here.
