Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will be given separately depending on the student's needs. Usually the take home practices will be given after the class so that student can practice during the rest of the week until next class.Class Experience
In this ongoing course, we will meet 30 mins once a week to learn Simplified Mandarin. This course is tailored for student's needs. It would work the best if you let me know what you would like to focus on and what are you interested in and what your goals are, and then I will tailor the class to make sure you get the most out of it. For students who do not have much experiences in Mandarin, the class will be distributed in both English 70% and Mandarin 30%: Session can be focused on 1: Oral Communication by learning how to great with others, how to count the numbers, how to introduce yourself and how to order food by using Chinese Mandarin etc... 2: Chinese Pinyin learning and pronunciation by using the 4 sounds correctly, for example we will be learning initials( b,p,m,f) and finals (a, o, e, i, u...) and the tones related with that i.e (ā、á、ǎ、à) 3: Practice writing: each class will learn 5-10 characters i.e(天,地,田,火,水) 4: Reading the simple descriptive stories with pictures and understand the meaning. Session time break down: 0-5 min - We will be reviewing old words and phrases in the form of a conversation could be written or spoken to enhance previous learning. 5-20 min - We will focus this time on learning new material, words or grammar structures, and seeing how it blends into other things we have learned. In this part, teacher will be spend as much time as possible to help student's understanding and interact with the student. 20-30 min - The student will given the opportunities to practice what we learned either by using in class activities such as gap filling, matching game or trace writing and sentence making to produce the learning outcome. Please inform me at least 24 hours before the class about which area you would like to work on so that I can better prepare for the session and to best fit your learning needs. Thanks.

Dear Friends and families,
Growing up in Nanjing, China, I finished high school before I came to Canada for further education. After finishing my bachelor's degree at York University, Toronto, Ontario, I went back to China and started my teaching journey in my hometown. To strengthen my teaching strategies, I have decided to get a Master's degree in Professional Education focusing on teaching abroad from Queens University. These wonderful learning experiences at Queens have strongly influenced my teaching philosophy and firmed my dream of devoting myself to K-12 education.
I have more than ten years of experience in teaching ESL students of various ages from English Speaking, Reading to Listening. I am also experienced in teaching Mandarin to students who have no Mandarin learning experiences to enjoy speaking a different language. I am a native Mandarin speaker and can teach multiple levels in Mandarin learning.
My teaching philosophy focuses on student success through an innovative, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Students’ success will be promoted through motivation, self-motivation, reflection, self-reflection and creativity to meet the needs for preparing students in understanding course required content and concepts.
I enjoy learning with students, having fun with them and love traveling and making new friends. Now, I am living in Toronto with my dear husband and son. I have a cute 2-year-old female Shih-poo dog at home. I am looking forward to meeting everyone here.
