Class Experience
Hello, and thank you for your interest in writing essays by hand in cursive! Below are details about what you can expect in this weekly ongoing class: How is the class structured? Step 1: -During our first class, I'll ask about your background and goals with both cursive as well as essay writing -If you ever experienced discomfort when writing in the past, I may educate you about proper pencil grip and focus on exercises that will help you to avoid pain during long periods of writing cursive Step 2: -Once we're confident in your comfort with cursive, I'll start by informing you about plagiarism, and its serious dangers -After that, I'll tell you what "citations" are so you won't be surprised by them in the future -We'll move on to a basic essay structure -I'll show you how the basic essay structure remains pretty much the same, even with more advanced forms of essays Step 3: -We'll discuss your interests, and what you'd be the happiest writing about -We'll plan out an essay structure together, which you'll have in your notes, and I'll also post it in the "Classroom" -If necessary, I'll give you an essay outline and rubric you can follow Step 4: -You'll write the "body" part of your essay first, following the basic structure -We can change it as we go along, but for a first essay, I recommend sticking to the standard structure Step 5: -We'll review your writing and I'll show you what could make it better -For example, we'll go over some good "transition" words Step 6: -We'll take some time to analyze the purpose of your essay -I'll contrast and compare your essay with other types of essay Step 7: -We'll review how you wrote your first essay and decide what could make it easier in the future -An example of this is if you forgot to double space, it would be better to remember to do it in the future for better editing later on Step 8: -This is when we decide what's next -I'll ask you what was challenging about it, and what did you enjoy? -We'll plan on what to do in the future to enhance your strengths and minimize any weak points How will I teach? -Because this is a private class, it is highly customized to suit each student's interests, learning styles, and thought process -I provide concrete examples of abstract concepts and keep your future essay writing in mind -I won't tell you all the rules at one time, as that's overwhelming; it's better to take it a step at a time, and learn as you "do" What's my teaching style? -My teaching style is playful, curious, encouraging, and highly interactive -I don't expect perfection at all, but I do expect you to be willing to put in the effort and challenge yourself! -When something is difficult for you, it's very important for you to let me know! This helps me know how to help you. How much will learners get to interact? -This is a private class, so it will be just you and I! -We will interact during our thirty-minute live classes one time per week -If you'd like corrections and feedback between classes, feel free to send me a photo of your writing at least three days before our next meeting so I can take a look at it -When we meet next, I'll give you corrections and feedback Required experience or knowledge: -This class is for students who have previously taken a cursive class and are fairly fluent with cursive writing -Cursive mistakes are acceptable, but the priority of this class is to focus on essay writing -If this class is of interest to you but you don't feel your cursive is up to speed, I'd recommend starting out with a cursive class before this one What topics will I cover? -The Dangers of Plagiarism and How to Avoid It -Different types of essays and how their purposes differ -How different types and levels of essays are similar and different
