The focus of this course is to give learners an introduction to the game of volleyball through discussion, interactive games, demonstrations and physical activities. This class is intended for learners who have no prior experience with volleyball, or those who have had some experience, but would like to learn more. Course content includes: -basic rules and terms -court dimensions -points and scoring -an introduction to three fundamental skills (passing, setting, hitting) -activities to reinforce proper volleyball technique *Enrollment fee is per learner, not per household. Siblings within the class age range are welcome to participate, but must be enrolled separately.*
Learning Goals
Students will:
-grow in their understanding of basic volleyball rules
-demonstrate knowledge of volleyball court terms and dimensions
-practice determining whether a ball lands in or out of bounds
-display understanding of 3 basic volleyball skills and their purposes in the game
-learn how to warm up for exercise
-practice plyometric exercises and the volleyball-ready position
-improve hand-eye coordination in preparation for perfecting volleyball skills
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This class requires some physical activity as well as the ability to copy a few words onto a diagram. Students will need an open workout space such as a large room, garage, driveway or backyard. Athletic shoes with closed toes are required and a water bottle is recommended. Students will be led through warm-ups and stretching exercises during class. Since learners will be engaging in physical activity, adult supervision is recommended.

2 tennis balls (or similar small balls that bounce) volleyball (or a similar ball that bounces) large open space (large room, garage, driveway, backyard) a printed copy of the worksheet provided ONE of the following: elastic/resistance bands OR a jump rope OR a line to jump over athletic wear water bottle pencil
