Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their compositional techniques.
I hold a master's degree in music composition and have written in various styles for over twenty years.
Students will have a composition assignment each week based on the previous class. Students will typically spend a minimum of an hour writing each week, but the time will vary depending on the assignment and how much they wish to write.
Staff paper: This will provided by the teacher as needed. (optional) Music notation software. This will greatly aid in creating professional looking music, provide the student with aural playback of their work, and make it easier to show their work during class. This is not required, but encouraged if possible. Prices range from free to a few hundred US dollars depending on the product. Many companies offer student discounts on purchases.
Assignments will be assessed through supportive teacher feedback. It is understood that music composition is an art form without true right or wrong answers, and feedback will be provided with this in mind.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
