Intro to Creative Writing & Storytelling: Whose Story Is This? Point of View

Students will learn the basics of point of view and choosing a narrator for beginners' creative writing and storytelling. We will talk about the differences between first person, second person, and third person points of view, including third person omniscient vs. third person limited, and we'll go over some reasons why a storyteller or writer may choose one point of view for a story over another. Budding writers are highly encouraged to tell us which point of view they're most curious to try writing a story from—or what kind(s) of narrator they've already created for a story! Students who are exploring creative writing and storytelling are welcome to enroll even if they do not already have a point of view in mind. And narrators are obviously not at all limited to fiction writing! Everyone who enjoys stories in any format (including movies and tv) will benefit from learning about point of view. Learners need nothing more than curiosity for this class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am so happy to be here and for the opportunity to teach your child(ren) all about the fascinating world that exists within the English language! I have bachelor's degrees in both psychology and English, with a focus on writing, as well as my TEFL certification.
I am also a Yoga Alliance-certified, trauma-informed yoga instructor. I fell in love with yoga somewhere in the middle of my more than 100-pound weight loss, and it truly and completely changed my life—not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. I am a health and wellness enthusiast!
I have been working with youth since I was in middle school, starting with babysitting and tutoring. I started formally teaching as part of one of the many leadership programs I completed in college, and I began teaching online in 2019.
In addition to teaching, I write technical and training documentation for various organizations (and develop and teach training courses), and I write creatively for fun as well! I am actually in the process of getting my first children's storybook submission ready, and I previously worked with my favorite author to write a pilot tv script for a potential adaptation of her lengthy urban fantasy series. I am currently working on my first fantasy novel in what I hope will be a book series.
I also offer private tutoring in writing (creative, scientific, and academic), reading, English, literature, psychology, and English as a Second Language, as well as private yoga instruction or yoga group parties.
