Individualized Reading and Writing Tutoring

During this individualized class with Kayla Stierwalt, the student will expand abilities as a reader, writer, listener, and speaker.



The first meeting with the student will be devoted to gaining insight into the student's interests, goals, and instructional needs. From that point forward, specific learning activities to meet those interests, goals, and needs will be planned. 



Creative writing exercises will be used to expand the mind as well as develop more technical aspects of grammar and structure. Informational writing exercises will be used to promote knowledge of audience, genre, structure,  diction (word choice), and rhetorical strategy. 



Reading fluency and comprehension will be fostered through the shared reading of short stories, poems, or chapter books that suit the student's interests and level. Connections between reading and writing will be made by having the student write about the texts we are reading.



Throughout the course, the student will engage in listening and speaking to foster language comprehension and communicative competence. 



Through this individualized approach, the student will gain confidence as a literacy learner and a budding scholar.
