I Don't Know What to Do With My Feelings: How to Handle Emotions and Change

When things change in your life (or in the world) it can be hard to know how you feel, why you feel that way, and what to do to feel better; this class will help students find answers to these questions and feel more like themselves again.

Class Experience

In this interactive class, students will learn how to identify and process their true feelings more effectively in less time. They’ll also learn to identify what they "need" and how to ask for help so that they can start feeling more like “themselves” again more quickly.

The class time is structured in three parts; understanding WHY we feel the way we do, practicing self-compassion, and moving past our feelings to a more positive state. We'll utilize evidence-based positive psychology tools and students will be provided with worksheets and exercises to complete during and after the class.

 Topics covered include:
• How to identify and describe how they really feel and that there’s really no “right” or “wrong” way to feel
• Why many of us tend to lean towards a more negative mindset and how and why to intentionally choose a more positive mindset
• Why we feel the need to fight, flight, or freeze when our basic needs feel threatened
• How to turn self-criticism into self-compassion and be their own best friend
• How to identify what will help them feel better right now, and in the future
Learning Goals
Students will learn critical ways to self-soothe whenever feeling afraid, disappointed, frustrated, sad, angry, or confused. They will also learn how their thoughts, feelings, and actions impact their overall wellbeing and to describe their feelings and ask you for help when needed.

Parental Guidance
This class is best experienced (and a lot more fun!) when students participate in the conversation as much as possible. To encourage trust and interaction I ask that all students leave their video cameras on throughout the class if at all possible. Additionally, this class is not a great fit for students who are not at all interested in learning about their feelings or engaging in this class. So if your child is strongly opposed to attending this class please do not require them to do so as it does not help to set a positive learning environment. **Note: This Content is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health providers with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Capella University
In 2006 I earned my first of several coaching certifications and opened my coaching and consulting firm, InBliss Coaching & Consulting LLC. In 2015 - 2017 I earned my certifications in applied positive psychology (the scientific study of happiness) by dedicating more than 300 hours to the study and practical application of positive psychology research and earned the title of certified positive psychology practitioner. In 2016 I launched my best-selling book, 'Practical Bliss: The busy person's guide to happiness,' based on the research and my journey to build a life of joy and meaning (a.k.a. Bliss), despite the odds.

Additionally, more than 900 learners on Outschool have gone through my 5-Star Review class, 'I Don't Know What to Do With My Feelings: How to Handle Emotions and Change.' I've conducted over 1,600 individual and group coaching sessions and hundreds (and hundreds) of workshops and training sessions for adults and children ages nine and up since 2007.

I'm so passionate about the benefits of practicing positive psychology I now incorporate it into all my work with personal and professional development.
