In this ongoing class, learners will practice common spelling patterns beyond CVC short vowel sounds. Our class will begin with learners sharing good news! This give all learners to connect with one another and become comfortable sharing with the group. We will then practice a new set of sight words each week. We will do this through the use of flash cards and writing practice. We will then discuss a new phonics pattern each week. This will include short vowels, multisyllabic words, long vowels, prefixes and suffixes, and glued sounds. These lessons are a great next step for learners who feel comfortable with short vowel sounds and are ready for new words and decoding strategies! Our class will finish with a game that will help learners practice the skills from class. Learners will need a prior knowledge of letters, sounds, and short vowel sounds. We will work through all words together! I look forward to seeing you in class! Weekly topics: Week of 3/1: consonant blends Week of 3/8: consonant digraphs Week of 3/15: two-syllable CVC words Week of 3/22: CVCe words Week of 3/29: CVVC long vowel pattern Week of 4/5: suffix endings -s and -ed Week of 4/12: glued sounds -an, -am, -ing Week of 4/19: glued sounds -all, -ong, -unk Week of 4/26: long a spelled ai and ay Week of 5/3: long i spelled igh and y
