Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
In this ongoing course your child will be taught basic sight words to begin reading. These basic sight words are found in many beginning readers. The understanding of reading and spelling these words will boost confidence in your child's reading and writing journey in the primary grades.
Each week, I will introduce a new sight word or sight words depending on the level of difficulty and review sight words from previous weeks. Each class will be started with sight word review with flashcards. Then the sight word of the day will be introduced by listening to a catch song where the sight word is introduced and is spelled. The students also play a game with the new sight word where they guess the letter that is missing in the sight word for review. After the new word is introduced, the students will then have an opportunity to write the new sight word with a variety of tools according to their preference. I will write the words on a dry erase board to model spelling and proper letter formation. I will also draw a few of our previously learned sight words out of a bag to write as well. I will then model the word in a written sentence for students to see word in sentence form for reading. Reading and spelling sight words are important for young readers. We will end our class with a story focusing on the word of the week. These stories will be written by the teacher or stories from online reading program, Reading A to Z which I purchased for tutoring purposes.

Hello!
My name is Amy Woldt. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Education with a Major in Early Childhood with certification in ESL and Gifted and Talented. I have taught kindergarten and preschoolers for 29 years. During this time I worked with different kind of learners. I have created scaffolded lessons to meet the needs of all my learners, since we all learn differently. With my ESL and Early Childhood expertise, I was lead to teach on another platform teaching English 2018-present to young students. I enjoyed teaching on this type of platform and decided to join the Outschool platform in the Spring of 2020 after retiring from public education. I also tutor reading to two elementary students in person after school.
I am a mom to two boys 19 and 26 and a twelve year old pug, who thinks he's human.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy traveling, watching movies and swimming with my husband.

I believe that all students can learn under the right guidance, structure and creative learning activities. I hope to see your student in my classroom soon.
