US Grade 5 - 7
In this 4-week course, students will read the first book in The Hunger Games series: The Hunger Games. This is a complete novel study taught by a 5th grade teacher with Masters of Art in Teaching. We will discuss detailed chapter questions, study story elements, analyze what we’ve read as well as have fun reading this book. Class is structured around the previous chapter assignment by discussing the questions assigned in a roundtable discussion. Each student will be encouraged to share their answers and opinions on the book. If time permits, we will start reading the next chapter assignment together in class during our 30 minute class period. This class is a discussion based course to encourage students to freely discuss what they’ve read while fostering a love of reading for enjoyment. My teaching study is loving and firm. I allow students to discuss books freely while providing structure to each lesson so we stay on track while reading this book. Students will interact with myself and their entire class by discussion and reading together. Students are expected to be able to independently read in order to take this class.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of character traits, reading comprehension, discussion skills and answer questions related to the text.
