✔️Course Description
Get ready to explore the incredible machine that is the human body in this 8-week anatomy course! Designed for curious minds and future healthcare professionals, this course will take you on a journey through the body’s major systems, including skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, nervous, and more. Each week, we’ll uncover how these systems work together to keep us alive and moving. Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and interactive tools like 3D models, you’ll build a strong understanding of the structures and functions that make the body tick.

Whether you’re passionate about science, preparing for a healthcare career, or just eager to learn, this course offers something for everyone. From identifying bones and muscles to discovering how your heart and brain communicate, you’ll leave each class with knowledge you can apply to real-life situations. By the end of the course, you’ll not only understand your body better but also gain skills and insights that will set you up for success in health, fitness, or science fields. Let’s dive in and uncover the wonders of the human body together!

✔️Why This Class?
- Taught by a Registered Nurse with real-world healthcare experience.
- Engaging activities like reaction time tests, heart rate monitoring, and virtual models.
- Build foundational knowledge for future careers in healthcare, sports, or biology.

✔️What Students Will Need
- A notebook for notes and diagrams.
- Access to basic household items for hands-on activities (e.g., balloons, straws).

✔️Who Should Take This Class?
This class is ideal for high school students who are:
- Interested in science, biology, or healthcare careers.
- Want to learn or re-learn anatomy and physiology prior to or after a high school class.
- Looking for an engaging supplement to their school curriculum.
- Curious about how the human body functions in everyday life.
- JOIN ANY TIME, as each week will be a new topic so students are welcome to join at all times.

⭐️Join us to explore the amazing systems that keep our bodies alive!

Learning Goals

Understand Human Body Systems: Students will identify and explain the structure and function of the major body systems, including how they work together to maintain homeostasis.
Engage in Hands-On Learning: Students will participate in interactive activities, such as labeling diagrams, using 3D models, and completing fun experiments, to deepen their understanding of human anatomy.

Syllabus

8 Lessons
over 8 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Blueprint of the Body
Discover the basics of human anatomy and physiology, learn key anatomical terms, and explore how the body is organized from cells to systems.

Week 1: Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology
- Define anatomy and physiology.
- Learn directional terms, planes of the body, and basic homeostasis.
- Activity: Labeling body planes and regions.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Bones: The Body’s Framework
Dive into the skeletal system to learn about bone structure, types, joints, and how bones protect, support, and enable movement.

Week 2: Skeletal System
- Structure and function of bones, joints, and cartilage.
- Bone remodeling and repair.
- Activity: Identify major bones with a virtual skeleton model.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Mighty Muscles in Motion
Uncover the muscular system’s secrets, including muscle types, how they work with bones, and the mechanics of movement.

Week 3: Muscular System
- Types of muscles: Skeletal, cardiac, and smooth.
- How muscles contract (basic introduction to sliding filament theory).
- Activity: Analyze movements and identify muscles used in common exercises.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
The Beat of Life: The Cardiovascular System
Explore the anatomy of the heart and blood vessels, trace the path of blood flow, and learn how this system fuels your body.

Week 4: Cardiovascular System
- Anatomy of the heart, blood vessels, and blood flow.
- Circulatory system functions and disorders (e.g., hypertension).
- Activity: Measure your own heart rate before and after exercise.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a registered nurse with hands-on healthcare experience, I bring professional expertise in anatomy and physiology to this course. My nursing education provided a thorough understanding of the human body, and I’ve applied this knowledge in clinical settings, offering patient care and education. I worked for over three years as a Nurse Educator, where I was able to teach and educate both patients, family and staff members regularly. Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience teaching and mentoring children and teens in various capacities, including as a babysitter, a church teacher for children with developmental delays, and a lactation counselor.

I have taught science and health-related topics in engaging, interactive ways that cater to different learning styles. My approach blends medical knowledge with practical, hands-on learning, ensuring students not only understand the material but also see its real-life applications. I am passionate about making complex topics accessible and exciting for young learners, and I look forward to guiding students on this journey through the amazing world of anatomy!
