Description
Class Experience
After listening to "How to Catch a Unicorn" by Adam Wallace, learners will discuss the steps they must follow to catch a unicorn. Then, we will work together to write our own "How to Catch a Unicorn" story. My job is to coach your learner through putting their idea into a manageable sentence and then stretching out words as they write the sentence along with me. Skills covered include, listening, speaking, connecting to a story, sharing thoughts and putting them into a spoken and then written...
Using an interactive five-step process, students will improve their ability to write simple sentences on a topic of their choice and correctly spell age-appropriate high frequency words.
I am a licensed PreK-Grade 3 teacher with a M.S. in Elementary Education. During my 20 years as a teacher, I have had extensive training and experience coaching young writers. I am passionate about encouraging a love of writing in my students.
No homework required, but learners are encouraged to continue writing on their own.
A writing template will be provided, but if you do not have a printer, regular paper will be fine. Learners will need something to write with, too.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
