US Grade Kindergarten - 1
After listening to "How to Catch a Unicorn" by Adam Wallace, learners will discuss the steps they must follow to catch a unicorn. Then, we will work together to write our own "How to Catch a Unicorn" story. My job is to coach your learner through putting their idea into a manageable sentence and then stretching out words as they write the sentence along with me. Skills covered include, listening, speaking, connecting to a story, sharing thoughts and putting them into a spoken and then written sentence. High Frequency words will also be covered as part of the writing process. This writing class is limited to 6 students to allow learners to share ideas with each other through conversations and to work through writing a sentence together. Learners should be able to write most letters of the alphabet and have some knowledge of letter sounds.
Learning Goals
Using an interactive five-step process, students will improve their ability to write simple sentences on a topic of their choice and correctly spell age-appropriate high frequency words.
