Class Experience

Before there airport security was tightened up it was relatively easy to buy a ticket and board a flight. You could give any name, your license wouldn't be checked, and security was almost non-existant compared to what we have today.

When "D. B. Cooper" bought his ticket no one realized that this non-descript man was not carrying work in his briefcase but a bomb. He was a man with a plan. A plan to steal lots of money and a plan to get away with it.

Every detail was worked out. Every contingency thought of but he was up against the FBI and military and they'd been through this before and stopped every hijacking so far.

Would DB Cooper get away with the perfect crime?

My history classes are all told in a thrilling campfire story format. Each part leading into the next and purposely crafted for thrills and tension. My classes are not a good fit for all students. This class is best for students who love thrillers, suspense, and mysteries.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about the evolution of airport security.

Students will engage their critical thinking skills.

Students will learn about a fascinating true story from history that remains unsolved to this day.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This is a true history story with a man hijacking a plane with a bomb. He threatens to kill everyone on board (oddly in a very polite and quiet way). No one dies in this tale (except maybe DB Cooper) but some students may find this isn't a good fit for them.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
