Beginning with a song and dance, I will introduce/review the concept of addition and subtraction of fractions. Terminology such as: addend, sum, numerator, denominator, difference, etc. will all be discussed. The students will then sort their Hershey's chocolate squares into fractions. I will read an excerpt of "The Hershey's Milk Chocolate Fractions Book" by Jerry Pallotta, before we create addition and subtraction fraction problems to solve using their Hershey's bar. (PDF printout provided before class). This is a great introduction into addition and subtraction of fractions, or simply a good review for anyone who needs it.

Hello from Texas! Although I am currently residing in Texas, we move quite often and that has allowed me to have many different types of career experiences. I have tutored privately and through well-known organizations; taught in the public school classroom setting with a self-contained classroom (including 4th grade and Texas History); substituted and interned in private school classroom settings; instructed at the community college level (History); assisted with museum operations; and homeschooled my three munchkins. I have worked with early education all the way up to the community college level. My Bachelors is in childhood education with a Master's in American History.
