Hands-On Science: 8 Week Course on Earth, Gravity, Magnetism & Surface Tension!
What's included
8 live meetings
6 in-class hoursClass Experience
This is a great Science class for students who love to learn through hands-on activities and experiments! We will meet once a week for 8 weeks to explore exciting science concepts together. Each week, I will review previous concepts, then I will introduce the new concept. Next, students will participate in a discussion to gauge their understanding and answer questions. Then, we will conduct an exciting experiment or activity to allow students time to apply what they have learned. Retention is often better when students participate in the hands on activities. Therefore, student are encouraged to gather the weekly supplies prior to class each week in order to participate. The weekly supply lists are under the supplies tab of the class description. Concepts are listed by week below. Week 1: Layers of the Earth with play dough Week 2: Earth's orbit, axis, and the reason for the seasons Week 3: Gravity with ball experiments Week 4: Magnetism and gravity defying experiments Week 5: Magnetic attraction, repulsion, and homemade compass. Week 6: Water's cohesion and surface tension, with drops on a penny experiment Week 7: Breaking Surface Tension with pepper and soap experiment Week 8: Surface tension in other liquids. Milk rainbow experiment.
Learning Goals
1. Students will learn about the Earth, it's layers, orbit, and axis.
2. Students will learn about gravity and what causes it.
3. Students will learn about magnetism and how it affects objects.
4. Students will explore surface tension and what causes it.
