Class Experience

Hello Everyone - In this 4-day camp students will be introduced to fractions and learn how to solve problems using fractions. This camp is perfect for those students who have been introduced to fractions, but struggle to understand how they work.
Day 1: We will be cutting 2 sets of fraction strips and begin learning about equivalent fractions and how to find greater than and less than using our fraction strips.
Day 2: We will review material from the day before while also learning how to add and subtract fractions.
Day 3: We will review material from the day before while also learning how to change improper fractions into mixed numbers and vice-versa.
Day 4: We will begin multiplying and dividing fractions. This will be an introduction to multiplying and dividing fractions and to understand what is being done when a fraction is multiplied or divided.

I hope you will join me in this fraction overview course.

Learning Goals

By the end of the course, students will have their own fraction strips and knowledge of how to use them to solve for various problems.
Students who struggle to make sense of what fractions are and how to solve problems using fractions will gain an understanding of the way fractions work (for example, when I solve 6 divided by 2 it equals 3. When I solve 1/2 divided by 1/4 it equals 2. 2 is larger than either fraction and I will explain why).

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching for 12 years in various capacities. 3 years ago I transitioned from the classroom to online teaching and I absolutely love it. I believe that hands-on, visual learning is the way the majority of us learn, and by having something they can touch and move around will enable them to understand how fractions work. By making the strips themselves, they will gain more understanding.
