Gymnastics Floor Routines (Age 9-13)
In this ongoing course, students will practice gymnastics floor tumbling and dance and learn a new piece of fun choreography each week
This class is for students with some gymnastics experience. Prerequisites for the class include forward roll, cartwheel, and bridge. Each week, students will learn a new piece of choreography with gymnastics tumbling skills included. More experienced students can substitute more advanced tumbling skills for the basics in the routine. Each class will be broken down into 4 segments: 1. Dance warm up to music 2. Tumbling practice: specifically the skill or skills in that week's routine 3....
Students will improve their rhythm, dance, and tumbling, as well as practice fluency of movement as they combine dance moves and tumbling skills together.
In addition to being a former competitive gymnast and theater arts professional, I have coached gymnastics for 19 years, and created and taught hundreds of dances to children as a gymnastics coach and theater choreographer.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
As with any sport or physical activity, gymnastics and dance carry a risk of injury. Minimize this risk by providing a wide open space, parental supervision, and comfortable, athletic clothing.
