US Grade 4 - 5
This 4th-5th Grade Grammar course is designed to teach essential grammar skills in manageable, specific pieces to ensure mastery. Each week, students will focus on one skill, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, or punctuation, through a blend of teaching methods. This class is highly interactive, combining direct instruction and collaborative activities (class brainstorming, chat box participation, and optional sharing of work). Review weeks are built in every 7th week to reinforce prior learning, address gaps, and celebrate progress. Each 25-minute class includes: ✏️ Mini-Lesson: Explicit teaching using slides and examples, with opportunities for student participation. ✏️ Reference Notebook Activity: Students will build a reference tool in a composition or spiral notebook to review and apply grammar rules. These activities are designed to be quick and meaningful, with no unnecessary coloring or complex cutting. ✏️ Practice Writing: Students will practice applying the skill with a short writing prompt, optionally sharing their work with the class. ✏️ Games and Activities: Time permitting, students will engage in grammar games, task cards, or other fun review activities to reinforce their learning. A short assessment link will be shared after class to assess student learning. A review lesson is scheduled after every seven skills to reinforce learning. The teaching approach combines direct instruction, interactive activities, and collaborative learning. Students engage through verbal participation, chat discussions, and hands-on tasks. My teaching style emphasizes clarity, encouragement, and active engagement to make grammar enjoyable and accessible. Learners interact with me and each other through guided discussions and grammar games. The focus is on building confidence, fostering curiosity, and encouraging independent thinking. The class introduces one grammar skill per week, ensuring manageable pacing for young learners. No prior grammar knowledge is required—this class is open to all students working at a 4th grade level in English Language Arts. Foundational concepts are reviewed as needed, ensuring all students can succeed. Students joining mid-course are welcomed and supported. This class offers a supportive and interactive environment where students build grammar skills and create a valuable reference notebook to help them as they grow into confident, independent writers.
