Geometry is derived from Greek "geo" meaning earth and "metria" meaning measure. Modern-day Geometry is a study of the shapes and patterns that exist in the world around us. This high school geometry course will delve deeply into the study of points, lines, and all the shapes that can be created from them. Students will participate in engaging lessons where they are challenged to explain their thinking and practice their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. I will explain concepts in ways that are easy to understand. We will focus on learning vocabulary, explaining one's work, and practicing for mastery. A typical week of class consists of lecture/discussion and completing a notes handout during the two live classes. This is followed by a practice homework assignment completed individually to check for understanding. Students will submit their completed work and I will check it, giving detailed written feedback. Once students have reviewed the feedback and asked any questions, they will complete a quiz to check for mastery. Students will be required to create an account through CK-12 in order to complete the weekly quizzes. Geometry is a highly visual class, so to help students grasp the concepts more fully, we will be utilizing online tools from CK-12, GeoGebra, and Mathigon. These sites are free and an account can be created to track students' progress. We will work with these tools during class and students will be encouraged to use them outside of class time to explore more deeply. Topics Covered: Week 17: Constructions by hand Week 18: Constructions with Geogebra Week 19: Properties within triangles Week 20: Circles in triangles Week 21: Composite Shapes Week 22: Applications of Probability Week 23: Three Dimensions Week 24: Review Students should have completed Algebra 1 and Geometry Part One and Part Two, before taking this class. Students should be able to work fluently with positive and negative numbers and solve linear equations. If your student has taken a first semester Geometry course with someone else, please contact me to see if this class would be a good fit for him/her. Thanks!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I taught high school math in a public-school setting for 6 years before my eldest was born. Since then I have been staying home with my kids, which I love, but I haven't given up teaching. My favorite thing has always been to work with small groups of students or one-on-one so that I can really get to know the student, their needs, and their learning style. To that end, I have tutored many students in many different classes, including middle school pre-algebra, high school ACT/SAT prep, and college Pre-calculus.
The live online format of this class means your student will get to ask questions and receive specific feedback designed to help them succeed. With so many free video math resources available online, you may be wondering if a "live" class is really worth it. Many of the free resources are wonderful and can be helpful, but having an experienced teacher to explain the concepts, answer questions, and offer immediate feedback is truly invaluable. If your student struggles with math or has low confidence in their math ability, this class is a great format for them! Even if your student excels in math, the personal interaction available through the live classes is a great way for them to continue on their math journey!
