Homework
1 hour per week. Each week, there will be approximately 20 - 30 minutes of homework assigned to help participants develop and apply the ideas taught in class to their own lives.
Assessment
Student progress will be assessed through teacher feedback on homework assignments.

Class Experience

This  High School math based class is designed to provide students with a practical understanding of the math skills they will actually need in the business world and in managing their own finances. The course will cover a variety of topics, including budgeting, managing money, and making financial decisions. The class will focus specifically on mathematical concepts and how they relate to real-life situations and scenarios. The class will be interactive and will help students to develop problem-solving skills and understand the math concepts that are important for the business world or for their own personal finances.

-Teach students how to budget and manage their money effectively in the context of real-life scenarios
-Provide students with an understanding of how to make financial decisions using mathematical concepts
-Help students develop problem-solving skills through real-life scenarios
-Enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts and how they relate to the business world and personal finances

Week 1: What money is and how money works
Introduction to the concept of money
Functions and characteristics of money
Different forms of money (cash, digital, etc.)
The role of central banks in managing money supply

Week 2: A brief history of money
Overview of the evolution of money throughout history
Barter system and the emergence of currency
Development of coins, paper money, and fiat currency
Introduction of digital and virtual currencies

Week 3: Inflation and depreciation
Understanding inflation and its causes
Effects of inflation on purchasing power
Measurement of inflation (Consumer Price Index, inflation rate, etc.)
Depreciation of currency and its impact on international trade

Week 4: How money works in the public sector vs. private sector
Differences between public and private sector finances
Government revenue sources (taxes, fees, etc.)
Public spending and budgeting processes
Financial management in private businesses

Week 5: Taxes
Overview of different types of taxes (income tax, sales tax, property tax, etc.)
Taxation systems and structures
Tax planning and strategies for individuals and businesses
Understanding tax deductions and credits

Week 6: Currency Exchange Rates
Basics of foreign exchange markets
Factors influencing currency exchange rates
Exchange rate systems (fixed, floating, pegged, etc.)

Week 7: Cryptocurrencies
Introduction to cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology
Key cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.)
Cryptocurrency mining and transactions
Benefits and risks of investing in cryptocurrencies

Week 8: How money is made
Overview of the money creation process by central banks
Fractional reserve banking system
Monetary policy and its influence on money supply
Role of commercial banks in the lending and money creation process


No experience is required to take this class.

Students will be provided with 16 separate videos to watch, 1 for each topic. 

The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic, and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week. Homework assignments will include writing a list of topics, interests, and areas of expertise in which the students might be interested in developing a business. There will also be research assignments into how topics we discuss. 

After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and the specific next steps to make their business vision a reality, including how to write a business plan. 

Time frame for the Week:
Mondays - The teacher will post the information needed for the week.
Tuesdays-Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week.  The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the class.
Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom.  
Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students, students will also be able to engage in peer-to-peer review and be able to discuss how they went about completing the tasks.
Saturday - Sunday - Teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week.

No required experience or previous knowledge is needed by the learners.
