What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students are required to post a video, question, or theory assignment in the classroom each week to show they are understanding the content. Students wishing to send the video privately to the teacher for feedback is great as well but be sure to share in the classroom what you learned that week. This can be a picture of your completed theory work, a clarifying question, or a comment about something you learned that week. In addition to our performance requirements students will discuss one composer every two weeks. We will post the composer and each student must provide one new fact about the composer to share with others in the classroom.

Class Experience

Flex class of the wildly popular: Learn to Play Piano for Beginners

Students will be provided with a video each week explaining the assignment, talking about specific technique and musical terminology applied in each lesson. They will be expected to practice regularly (recommended at least 10-15 minutes each day) to learn and complete the assignment.

All students will require a keyboard or piano to practice at home. If you do not have a keyboard please look for a full size (88 key) keyboard with weighted keys(an acoustic piano is always preferable but keyboards are absolutely fine!). Please ensure you have a proper stand and bench for the keyboard as placing the keyboard on the table will result in problems with posture. Regular weekly practice will be required in order to improve as with any instrument instruction.

Each week students will receive between 2-4 pieces to work on based on these new concepts:

Class 1-Getting ready to play. Piano posture and setting up at the piano. Mapping out the keyboard and learning the patterns. -Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach
Class 2-Quarter notes, Discovering your keyboard and finger numbers.
