This class should be taken as a continuation to the course on area of basic figures and the course or area of a circle . Students are expected to know or at least have previous experience with the formulas for finding the area of triangles, rectangles and circles. In this course we will quickly go over finding the area of rectangles, triangles and circles. We will then explore how these formulas can be implemented to shapes that have a combination of these shapes. We will work together on a few examples focusing on how to break down a composite figure into familiar shapes. Students will cooperatively find the area of each shape and then add them to find the combined area. Students will have an opportunity to work independently to show comprehension.
Learning Goals
Students will find the area of composite figures by breaking it down into familiar shapes.
