US Grade 4 - 6
This ongoing class has a dual benefit: students will fortify their vocabulary knowledge while learning about science and nature. Each week we will have a lesson centered around five to seven significant words from an interesting science topic. Students will learn more than just the definition: they will learn related concepts and interesting facts. For instance, in the lesson "Shimmering Sharks," learners will do a deep dive into these related vocabulary words: cartilage, lateral line organ, electrolocation, oviparous, countershading, and nictitating membrane. Students will be encouraged to share their knowledge and ask questions. If time allows, we will have a matching challenge and play Two Truths and a Lie based on what we covered in class. Here is the weekly schedule: 2024 Week of October 21: Walloping Whales Week of October 28: Shimmering Sharks Week of November 4: Fabled Feliformia and Confident Caniformia Week of November 11: Amazing Animals Week of November 18: Interesting Insects Week of November 25: Bodacious Birds Week of December 2: Super Scientists Week of December 9: Magnificent Microorganisms Week of December 16: Primo Paleontology Week of December 23: Majestic Mushrooms Week of December 30: Helpful Hydrosphere 2025 Week of January 6: Volatile Volcanoes Week of January 13: Stunning Cells Week of January 20: Complex Clouds Week of January 27: Sly Spiders Week of February 3: Benevolent Bats Week of February 10: Stupendous Snakes Week of February 17: Engaging Ecology Week of February 24: Bountiful Botany Week of March 3: Compelling Chemistry Week of March 10: Fascinating Physics Week of March 17: Marvelous Marine Ecosystems Week of March 24: Magical Marine Life Week of March 31: Jazzy Geography: Meaningful Maps Week of April 7: Jazzy Geography: Rad Rocks Week of April 14: Candid Color Week of April 21: Astonishing Animal Adaptations Week of April 28: Daring Defense Mechanisms Week of May 5: Peppy Primates Week of May 12: Delicious Diets Week of May 19: Fruitful Food Webs Week of May 26: Fanciful Freshwater Ecosystems Week of June 2: Nurturing Natural Resources Week of June 9: Capricious Climate Week of June 16: Wonderous Weather Week of June 23: Meritable Meteorology Week of June 30: Epic Earthquakes Week of July 7: Riveting Rivers Week of July 14: Wonderful Waterfalls Week of July 21: Meticulous Scientific Method Week of July 28: Super Symbiotic Relationships Week of August 4: Perilous Parasitism Week of August 11: Beneficial Biology Week of August 18: Beguiling Biosphere Week of August 25: Marvelous Mammalogy Week of September 1: Captivating Convergent Species Week of September 8: Successful Species Week of September 15: Supportive Keystone Species Week of September 22: Entertaining Entomology Week of September 29: Admirable Ants Week of October 6: Hardworking Honeybees Week of October 13: Jazzy Geography: Captivating Caves Week of October 20: Jazzy Geography: Lovely Landforms Week of October 27: Sensational Solar System Week of November 3: Significant Stars Week of November 10: Wacky Space Weather Week of November 17: Electrifying Electricity Week of November 24: Surprisingly Simple Machines Week of December 8: Majestic Morphology Week of December 15: Fantastic Physiology: Circulatory System Week of December 22: Fantastic Physiology: Digestive System Week of December 29: Fantastic Physiology: Nervous System 2026 Week of January 5: Terrific Taxonomy Week of January 12: Clever Kingdom Classifications Topics will repeat every 64 weeks. Teacher expertise and credentials
Minnesota Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
Even though I love teaching ELA at a public school and here on Outschool, I also love science and nature! I've done a lot of research on this topic and feel qualified to share what I've learned with interested students.
