1:1 Reading Fluency and Comprehension Tutoring With the Cats and Poochie!

This ESL-friendly class offers one-on-one reading help for students who love cats, dogs, and nature! Students can choose from a list of original stories featuring Pumpkin, Marigold, and Poochie. These adventurous pets make discoveries and meet new animal friends.

Here’s what we’ll do in class:

1. Students will pick a Pumpkin, Marigold, and Poochie story that interests them.
2.  We’ll review six vocabulary words from the story, practicing pronunciation and checking understanding.
3. We’ll read the story aloud, work on decoding tricky words, and getting reading practice. As we read, we’ll talk about the characters and main ideas.
4. After completing the story, we’ll use a story map to explore key story elements like characters, setting, sequence of events, and summary.
5. Finally, we’ll revisit our vocabulary list with a matching challenge to reinforce the words we’ve learned!
6. If students like, we can draw a cute animal together.

Each story has a reading award for students to print and color if they wish.
