Assessment
Learner progress will be assessed by the teacher daily during each lesson as they observe that students are becoming comfortable, independent and fluent in their reading. Comprehension will be monitored regularly through questions and answers as well as activities on the slides that require students to demonstrate understanding. Writing will improve as students keep a regular journal that will show their progression over time. Parents can also assess their own child's progress as they become more independent during their participation in class, their own independent reading, as well as how they are using learned information and reading techniques outside of class.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⭐Course Overview⭐ ▬▬▬▬▬▬
Welcome to our ongoing English class for "Effective Readers"! This course is designed for students who already have a good foundation in reading and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Throughout the course, we will be focusing on building fluency and comprehension in reading.

Each week, we will be exploring a new story from the Reading A-Z series. These stories will follow the adventures of children, animals, and other fictional characters as they explore the world around them every day. We will cover a variety of topics, including family, home, school, the park, the zoo, friends, pets, the store, and more. Through these stories, students will gain vocabulary and understanding that they can use to make useful connections to their lives every day.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩‍🏫Teaching Style👩‍🏫 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
The course will be taught completely from slides to ensure that students can clearly see the content being presented. Each class will consist of some letter activities, vocabulary review, story reading, comprehension, and writing. Some writing will be done on the screen, which will require students to access their writing tools on their computer, while some writing will require paper, pencil, crayons, and/or markers at home.

Reading should be enjoyable, and that's why we will dive into each adventure in a fun way by talking about what is happening, exploring our curiosities throughout the stories, and relating what we learn to our own experiences. Students will interact with the teacher and their classmates continuously throughout the lesson through talking, writing, reading, and completing activities on the slides.

📅 Are you looking for a class that meets 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x per week? Send us a message about a class frequency change.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🌍Target Student🌍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
In this class, we will be targeting "Effective Readers" according to the Reading A-Z program, which means that we will be working on attending to the phonics, word chunks, and affixes when decoding unfamiliar words in their entirety, including multisyllabic and compound words. We will also focus on recognizing more and more words automatically by sight, guessing or predicting what the sentence says, glancing ahead to prepare for upcoming words, and transitioning from "learning to read" to "reading to learn."

Students are welcome to join and leave at any time, as there is no previous information needed in order to succeed in the current week’s lesson. If you’d like to know exactly what week we are in (and that week’s topic), please send us a message to inquire.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📚Weekly Course Examples📚 ▬▬▬▬▬▬
Throughout the course, we will use text to support readers at this level, which may include longer sentences with more complex syntax, more text per page, richer vocabulary, greater variation in sentence pattern and exposure to a variety of text structures, fewer pictures, and more formal and descriptive language.

The first four weeks of class will address the following topics:
⭐Week 1: Best Friends Q and U
⭐Week 2: Do Not Eat
⭐Week 3: Getting Around the City
⭐Week 4: Frog is Hungry

At the end of four weeks lessons will cycle back to the beginning. Students are welcome to join and leave at any time, as there is no previous information needed in order to succeed in the current week’s lesson. If you’d like to know exactly what week we are in (and that week’s topic), please send us a message to inquire. Join us on this exciting journey of becoming an "Effective Reader"!

▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⭐About Us⭐ ▬▬▬▬▬▬
Polyglots Academy was established in the state of Minnesota in the year 2011. Beginning as a program serving students in PreK-2nd grade, we have since expanded our class offerings to include students up to 12th grade. Our primary focus is to promote literacy through the encouragement of world language learning. We teach and enhance literacy skills in multiple languages which currently include: English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Russian. We also include classes in the areas of S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) to allow students to explore their learning interests across multiple subjects.
Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, and engaging environment where children can develop strong language skills and cultural competency. We believe that every child has the potential to learn a new language, and we are committed to helping them achieve their full potential.
