This is an English language and conversation-based class for English Language Learners. Each week will build upon the previous one in order to create a solid learning plan for the students. Various topics are on the table for discussion, so that students have a chance to talk about all kinds of things in order to improve their language and communication skills. Students can expect to converse with me and with each other. Classes will start with a warm-up or a "do now" activity, at times a warm-up game, and then transition into the main lesson which will scaffold grammar and vocabulary in a way that leads up to a primary goal. We will end with an "exit ticket" or reflection activity. I teach with traditional methods, including call and response and fill in the blank style exercises, as well as using my theatre background to incorporate improvisational and role-play style scenarios, at times even using a text or script (or having the students create one) to facilitate such activities! I find that with ELLs, this is a highly effective way to boost confidence and communication skills. Here is a tentative curriculum: Week 1 - Introductions to Zoom and to each other / Classroom expectations * Introduce yourself, introduce others, talk about your town, asking common questions Week 2 - Places and Professions * Talking about locations around town, different jobs, different hobbies and interests, asking questions about someone's interests and hobbies Week 3 - Making Plans and Schedules * Days of the week, months of the year, numbers, telling time, making plans Week 4 - House and Home * Rooms in the house, items in the house, asking where things are Week 5 - School and School Life * School subjects, past tense, likes and dislikes, school schedules, future tense Week 6 - Family and Friends * Talking about family members and friends, descriptive adjectives, describing people, describing appearance Week 7 - Food and Drink * Talking about food and drinks, expressing things we can and cannot eat or drink, ordering food, colors Week 8 - Feelings and Dreams * Talking about how things make you feel, different feelings that we can have, talking about things we may need Week 9 - Nature and Space * Vocabulary related to nature and the natural world, animals and plants, likes and dislikes, talking about outer space Week 10 - Interviews * Being able to ask someone lots of questions to learn about them, being able to tell someone else what you learned about someone Week 11 - Technology * Vocabulary related to modern-day technology, describing how things work, asking about how something works Week 12 - Travel * How to ask for directions, words related to travel, talking about past experiences Week 13 - Review and Outro * Full review and goodbyes
