Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner Level
This is an ongoing Arabic lesson. We will practice conversation, reading, and/or writing covering a wide array of topics every class, such as math, storytelling, art, culture, animals, and much more. Class will begin with a simple introduction and discussion of what we'll be doing, and then begin with conversation and highlighting new vocabulary. The goal is to increase the student's confidence, comfort, and speaking skills in the language. I like for the student to have control of what they learn, so I ask a lot of questions regarding what specific themes they'd like to talk about.

Content will build continuously, starting with basics and greetings, and adding on with various grammatical concepts. There is flexibility in the input based on the group's particular needs.

A sample class plan would look like this:

1. Week of January 15: Places around town - We will learn vocabulary related to locations around town, how to talk about where we are and where things are, and how to give directions. At the same time we will discuss suffixes in Arabic that relate to pronouns so we can talk about what belongs to certain people.

2. Week of January 22: Professions and Wants - We will build on the vocabulary from the week before by talking about professions and where those people might work. We will also use this as an opportunity to talk about how we can say what we want to do in the future.

3. Week of January 29: Schedules - We will learn the words for the months and the days of the week so we can plan a schedule and talk about what we have to do during a day and throughout the week.

4. Week of February 2: Vocabulary Building - We will discuss vocabulary related to things around the house and daily routines to build vocabulary with nouns and verbs. This will build upon what we did the week prior.
