This class is a fun introduction to or practice of ten frames. Ten frames help develop number sense and counting skills and are great for young mathematicians! Using ten frames gives children a visual when learning to count, making groups of ten, or starting basic addition skills.Ten frames set a good foundation for composing and decomposing numbers and place value. We will start the class by showing which objects we brought to use as counters. After, learners will watch a demonstration of how to use a ten frame and then we will play a game together for hands on practice. Throughout the game, I will ask guiding questions to get them to think about numbers and math using their ten frame. (Ex: "Is that greater than or less than __?" or "How many are empty?")

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I am Ms. Marie, a lover of learning, playing and creating! I have been doing these things all of my life, and been sharing them with learners of all ages for 13 years!
I have been a "teacher" all of my life (babysitter, camp counselor, resident assistant, Peace Corps volunteer), but formally, I have been teaching since 2009. Much of my experience comes from teaching 3, and 4-year old children in a private preschool, and I have taught 1st and 2nd grade.
My strength as a teacher comes from teacher my ability to follow the interest of my learners and to create meaningful, play-based learning experiences in my classes. My classes incorporate literacy, numeracy, science and social studies in hands on ways so that learners can explore, create and engage with materials and each other. Whether a journaling class, a preschool class or a games camp, I have a ton of energy and loads of enthusiasm! I look forward to meeting you in my classroom!
