Early Elementary Math: Learning Numbers 1-20

We will focus on one number a week. We use dough, learn poetry to teach us how to write numbers, and play math games to learn to count and write our numbers 1-20. We discover many ways we can show a number. This class will be a favorite!

I am an experienced licensed teacher in Texas. I have taught for 30 years in all subject areas.
I am gentle, but disciplined.
I truly care about my students and their well being.
I am nurturing and I want to see my students succeed.

My mission is to:
educate and inspire students to strive to be the best they can be.
spread a smile and make a change in their little corner of the world.
have students be bold in all things.
have students ask for help if needed.

My goals are to:
have strong classroom management.
make every learner feel at ease, respected, and wanted as I welcome students into my class.
take a real interest in what your child thinks and says.
have a successful class meeting your child enjoys, have a class that holds your child's attention, and stays engaged.

Why do I teach?
I teach because I am a teacher. It is who I am. It is what I do. I love teaching! I want to reach little ones and have them succeed as they venture through their educational journey.

What do I care about?
I care about the child as a whole; their interests, their stories, their family. I care if they succeed. I aim to make lessons engaging so that "failure is not an option."

What is the purpose of my teaching business?
The purpose of my teaching business is to not only educate the child, but to help fulfill the needs of the whole child so that they succeed in every area of their life.

What outcomes do I hope to achieve?
The outcome I most want to see is that the child has felt loved and encouraged when they leave my class. My hope is that the outcome will be the child succeeds by mastering the concept taught. I hope the child has felt uplifted, respected, and had fun learning through an engaging lesson.

What is my teaching style?
I am a loving, kind, and caring teacher. I love my students. I strive to teach in a manner in which students feel loved, respected, and encouraged so that they will try their best to succeed and work hard for me.

Parents:
Please download, print, and cut out any "cut & paste" activities that will be needed for class prior to classes starting. This class is always moving. We will need all materials ready to go. You will also need to gather any necessary materials.

OPTIONAL:
I offer out-of-class activities to students who wish to extend their learning and further explore the content studied. Families who choose to participate in the out-of-class activities will receive individualized personal attention from me in response to their students project. Share a photo or video of you and your out-of-class activity and I will respond to you. These out-of-class activities offer additional quality, extra value, and will engage your learner beyond the classroom setting. I want to reach out and increase your child's learning experience. These activities may be additional reading, videos, games, and fun activities that will extend and enhance your child's learning experience in my class.

The student will need: printouts each day dough pom poms glue pencil crayons other supplies as needed An email will be sent each Sunday with supplies, information, and print outs.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Some students get so excited and they are so proud of what they have done that they just HAVE to show me. I will gladly take a quick look at their hard work, but I will not grade it. No grade...No tears...Just good old fashioned fun! The parents sitting just off camera can see if their child is picking up on the skill. I do not do formal or informal assessments of the students progress.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
For my 3 and 4 your old's, I recommend parents sit next to their children just off camera to help make sure they have the right page, stay on task, and to keep them seated and quiet. I love a child's response. We just need to keep talking to a minimum.

This class does use external sources. I use Google Slides in my presentations. I also use YouTube videos. Videos and Google slides are rated G. No account is required to view the videos. This resource will only be used as a screen-share.
I used Tara West resources for this class.
