This class is one of my most popular classes! This is an ongoing 1st grade class that will meet 3x a week. Our class is scheduled like the following: Math Facts or Skip Counting Calendar skills - Days of the week, Months, week ago, Week from now Mini Lessons - 4-5 per class Games related to math facts or problem solving and/or Sharing Each mini-lesson is about 5-10 minutes (short burst of learning) covering a variety of topics like multi-step addition & subtraction, multiplication, division, time, money, fractions, graphs, story problems, shapes, and calendar to name a few. This class is tailored to the students in the class. This is NOT a traditional lecture class. Everyone is expected to keep cameras on and participate. Each week is stand-alone. We learn a lot, move through the material with short bursts of learning, laugh a lot and reinforce with daily homework and periodic assessments. Integrated are songs, games, and lots of laughs. I've worked with this age group for years so I'm able to keep them on task, re-direct when needed but connect with them so much they BEG for more time and more classes. Kids get opportunities to participate, discuss ideas and possible solutions in order to solve problems. Our daily class follows the following schedule: Math Facts Calendar skills - days, months, spelling of each, real life story problems Mini Lessons - See below for concepts covered Math facts review through games and Sharing Each class has 4-5 mini-lessons that are 5-10 minutes long (short burst of learning) covering a variety of topics like multi-step addition & subtraction, time, money, fractions, graphs, story problems, shapes, and calendar to name a few. Parent Reviews: We wanted to thank you for the incredible impact you’ve had in such a short period of time. He walks around counting by 2s, 10s and singing the days of the week song. We will be on the lookout for any of your other classes that may better fit his schedule. But wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your classes and teaching techniques. Ms. Wendy is wonderful and I love how she engages children through challenging concepts. As a parent, I picked up on more than a few teaching ideas from this class. Ms. Wendy is a phenomenal teacher. My son has learned so much in her class. My 2 year old daughter even picked up counting and some math songs by overhearing from a different room! Ms. Wendy is not only engaging, but covers so much - counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, counting money, reading a clock, addition/subtraction, graphs, word problems, calendar, writing/spelling, patterns, ruler, shapes, etc. Her curriculum is well-structured and goes above and beyond. For instance, she not only provides daily homework, but homework videos with all the answers which is helpful not only for the kids, but busy parents. My son is shy and through her end of class show & tell each day he has become a lot better at speaking up. It's also a great way for online classmates to get to know one another. My son is always asking us math problems on his own now, including negative numbers. And he can solve these problems, because she's drilled in his head how to use the hundreds chart. I cannot recommend her enough! My daughter absolutely loves Ms. Wendy and doesn't want to miss a class. She has learned so much in math and loves to do the homework. It has been nice seeing her happy, engaged, and learning.
Learning Goals
Students will review daily math facts.
Students will gain knowledge of 1st & 2nd-grade math lessons and concepts.

Parent Comments for Other Classes:
This class is perfect. It is the first class we’ve taken at Outschool where I felt like the teacher was a real school teacher. Her lessons are just enough repetition to be good for memorization but not to become boring. My daughter looks forward to her class every day.
You are awesome. My son is learning so much from you. You devote tons of time.
I am so blessed to find this class!
By the way, you are an amazing teacher. This is our first Outschool class where I feel like a real teacher is teaching the class. I appreciate all your patience and steadfastness to such young children. My mom was a teacher of middle school for 35 years so I can spot the good ones. :)
Very good class. Encourages participation. Everyone gets a turn to speak often.
