What's included

55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
What does the Statue of Liberty represent in 2021? In this class, young artists will use their imaginations to draw Ms. Liberty to reflect their viewpoint and understanding of this famous symbol of the USA. In the first part of the class, we will discuss the history and symbolism of the Statue of Liberty. Next, students will draw their personal statue to reflect their creativity and opinion. And, yes students may draw a normal image of the Statue of Liberty with fireworks in the background. If time, students will share their drawings with the class. NOTE: This celebratory class of the American icon could be a great addition to an Independence Day curriculum and a bigger theme of America as a world culture.
Learning Goals
Student will have a better understanding of the Statue of Liberty as part of the culture of the USA.

I am passionate about teaching appreciation of our world's cultures, societies, and people in a fun and engaging way that will spark a lifelong curiosity about our global community and a desire to be active and productive community members. I would like to work with learners from 6 to 18 years old. I have a degree in Sociology from UCLA, visited more than 30 countries, and lived/taught in five countries. I love to explore our global community from teas to art to traditional clothing.
Since 2005, I have taught English as a foreign language. I have taught in Asia, Central America, South America and North America. I have taught all age levels from young learners to middle school students to college students. For the past five years, I have been teaching English online to very young learners in China.
I believe learning should be fun, interactive and relevant to students' lives. Students should be inspired and encouraged to be active learners and full participants in developing their knowledge of the world.
On a personal note, I have two big dreams that I'm pursuing now. The first is to live in London for a year as a writer. Because of the Covid pandemic, I am not sure when this will happen. The second is to publish The Next Great American Novel. (I have a Master's degree in Nonfiction Writing from USC.)
