During this interactive storytelling class, students will explore Election Day in the US. The US is currently holding its presidential election, a popular and important event for American citizens. To celebrate this day, Teacher MoMo will read her original kids' book, The Little Voter. The Little Voter follows a little girl as she accompanies her parents to vote in the presidential election. The story covers the full Election day from waking up early to waiting in line to vote to ending...
Students will develop a basic understanding of the culture of the USA by exploring how one family votes on Election Day. Also, students will improve their critical thinking skills by connecting their personal life (and personal objects) to the story by completing the scavenge hunt worksheet before class. Then students will share their worksheet findings in the class and thereby work on their social communicative skills.
Students may interview family members and draw a picture about how their families vote.
1 file available upon enrollment"Little Voter" Scavenger Hunt Worksheet: Students should gather materials from their homes, so they can share the items in class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
If requested, student can receive an informal assessment of the final drawing and completed homework.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
It is advised that parents stay off-camera for the full class if a young learner is unable to fully focus on the lesson and share items easily. NOTE: This class serves to celebrate American families voting. I will avoid items/topics that focus on being a Democrat or being a Republican. This class serves to be a fun and engaging place to spark curiosity about American citizens in public service and citizens as fully engaged members of the American society. I have a MFA in writing and BA in Sociology, so I enjoy exploring the roles of people in various societies. As the author of this original book, I can receive additional benefits through sales of this book on online platforms, such as Amazon and Teachers Pay Teachers.
