Class Experience
There's something extra exciting when studying history and you stumble upon a mystery. In this class, we will be investigating some of the United States more well known unsolved "cold Cases". Every other week, students will be presented with an outline of the case. We will discuss the evidence and theories that have been suggested. Students will then examine both primary and secondary sources to arrive at what they consider the best theory as to what actually happened. Students will then...
I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
Students will have 6 different "case files" to create either individually or as a group.
Worksheets and guidelines will be posted to class before the first day. Further research material will be furnished as the class progresses.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Some of the topics may include violence and murder, theft, and conspiracy theories. The goal of this class is to have students examine the evidence in a logical, thought out manner, and have them assess them as a historian would. There may be some Youtube videos that are seen during this class. I will share my screen and learners will not need to access them on their own. Learners will also be directed to different sources including Khan Academy and Smithsonian Magazine.
Some of the sources used for this class are, but not limited to: Smithsonian Britannica National Geographic PBS Library of Congress
