If you have a passion for history and learning about some of the incredible and amazing people who shaped it, then this class is for you. Each week, (see schedule below), we will take a look at the childhood, influence and education, and accomplishments of different people who shaped the world we live in today. We will explore different time periods in history, unique events, and learn about different industries and career paths that people have taken. My goal with this class is to have an inside look at what led to these individuals to becoming memorable names, and what we can learn from each of them. This class is 45-55 minutes long. The length of class is dependent on the number of students enrolled and how in depth our discussions get. 2024 Week of July 1 NO CLASS July 8 Nikola Tesla July 15 The Wright Brothers July 22 Terry Fox July 29 Florence Nightingale August 5 Eleanor Roosevelt August 12 Frida Kahlo August 19 History of Country Music (NO WEDNESDAY CLASS) August 26 Who invented the lightbulb? Learning Goals
Each class will consist of slides, videos, and readings. The first part of each class will be a lecture type class where I will review a mini-biography, and listen or watch any film or recordings. The second part of the class will be an open discussion of what our thoughts about that person are and what we can learn from them to implement in our own lives. As this is a weekly class, there are no homework assignments. Learners are encouraged to participate during discussion in anyway that is comfortable for them (either with or without camera on, or through the chat box).
I believe that in everything that we read and learn about there is something that we can implement in our own lives to help us achieve our goals.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience. Some of the seminars/courses that I have attended in the past are: Foundations for Teaching and Learning About Native Americans; The Presence and Absence of Asian America: What Truths Lie Beyond the Headlines; Using the “Diary of Anne Frank” to Amplify Students’ Voices; Painting a Just Picture – Art and Activism.
