If you have a passion for history and learning about some of the incredible and amazing people who shaped it, then this class is for you. Each week, (see schedule below), we will take a look at the childhood, influence and education, and accomplishments of different people who shaped the world we live in today. We will explore different time periods in history, unique events, and learn about different industries and career paths that people have taken. My goal with this class is to have an inside look at what led to these individuals to becoming memorable names, and what we can learn from each of them. This class is 45-55 minutes long. The length of class is dependent on the number of students enrolled and how in depth our discussions get. 2025 Dates Week of: January 6 Vincent Van Gogh January 13 Edgar Degas January 20 History of Tuberculosis/Phumeza Tisile January 27Lonnie Johnson February 3 Corrie Ten Boom and Irena Sendler February 10 Douglas Bader February 17 Incredible People from Canada February 24 Steve Irwin March 3 History of Moving Pictures (Louis le Prince, Edison) March 10 Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez March 17 NO CLASS March 24 Iqbal Masih March 31 History of Fungi/Scientists April 7 The Titanic April 14 Incredible People from Mexico April 21 Sir David Attenborough April 28 History of Young Adult Books/Authors May 5 Jane Austen May 12 History of Youtube/Christina Grimmie/Youtube Stars May 19 Thor Heyerdahl May 26 Incredible People from Central America June 2 Nolan Bushnell June 9 Betsy Ross and the history of the American Flag June 16 American Folk Hero's/Tall Tales (Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan) June 23 NO CLASS June 30 NO CLASS July 7 The Tuskegee Airmen July 14 Rachel Carson July 21 Incredible People from Brazil/Argentina/Chile/Peru July 28 Bass Reeves August 4 Milton Hershey August 11 Incredible People from Pacific Islands August 18 Marie Curie August 25 History of Soccer September 1 Clara Barton September 8 Louis Armstrong and the History of Jazz Music September 15 Incredible People from New Zealand/Australia September 22 September 29 NO CLASS October 6 The Brothers Grimm October 13 Nellie Bly October 20 Edgar Allan Poe October 27 Incredible People from China November 3 Pocahontas November 10 Maria Tallchief/The History of Ballet November 17 Jane Goodall November 24 NO CLASS December 1 History of the Piano/Famous Pianists December 8 Helen Keller December 15 Jim Henson December 22 NO CLASS December 29 NO CLASS Suggestions for 2026 Term: Debby Ryan Martin Luther King JR. Learning Goals
Each class will consist of slides, videos, and readings. The first part of each class will be a lecture type class where I will review a mini-biography, and listen or watch any film or recordings. The second part of the class will be an open discussion of what our thoughts about that person are and what we can learn from them to implement in our own lives. As this is a weekly class, there are no homework assignments. Learners are encouraged to participate during discussion in anyway that is comfortable for them (either with or without camera on, or through the chat box).
I believe that in everything that we read and learn about there is something that we can implement in our own lives to help us achieve our goals.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience. Some of the seminars/courses that I have attended in the past are: Foundations for Teaching and Learning About Native Americans; The Presence and Absence of Asian America: What Truths Lie Beyond the Headlines; Using the “Diary of Anne Frank” to Amplify Students’ Voices; Painting a Just Picture – Art and Activism.
