Class Experience

Students will learn the basics of tap dance in this fun and energetic ongoing class with Northwest Theatre Lab's Mr. Gill. We will get our bodies moving and learn several basic tap steps to Broadway favorite show tunes such as Anything Goes, Crazy for You, Frozen, and Spongebob the Musical. We will actively warm up our bodies through fun movement and rhythmic games, plus stretch our bodies to improve flexibility. Next, students will learn basic tap steps as they dance to songs from a variety of tap show tunes from Broadway. Then, young dancers will stomp and shake their way through fun games designed to review tap techniques, dance improvisation, and release energy.

Dancing Broadway Basics dancers can expect a simple dance warm-up, learn a few basic tap dance steps used in musical theatre, and participate in fun dance games with class members to wrap up the end of class. This is a great class for the novice tap dancer who is looking to learn the basic techniques and steps found in tap.

**This is the tap shoe style that I recommend for novice and intermediate tap dancers of both genders. | Tap Shoes: bit.ly/3m8WgvK

***Warning: Tap shoes will damage your hard wood and linoleum floors. I suggest using a 3-foot square sheet of Masonite, sanded plywood, or as a last resort a smooth concrete surface like one you would find in a garage as a tapping surface. There are tapping surfaces that you can purchase as well.
I am including a link to an inexpensive tapping surface kit here. | Tap Surface Kit: https://bit.ly/3fAh2TN
