US Grade 3 - 5
Figurative language is fun! We will first discuss its definition and the type of genre that contains it. We will then explore: the simile, the metaphor, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, symbolism, and idioms. After each term is explained in detail, the learner will write a sentence or two using that element, and these will be shared with the class. I teach in a relaxed manner. It is helpful if your learner knows how to write a complete sentence and has basic spelling skills. However, if your student has difficulty with writing, they may say their example orally. This class is most beneficial if your learner will interact in the discussion. Paper and a pencil should be brought to this class. Class Rules: We mute so we do not talk over one another, we are kind and respectful to everyone, we raise our hand if we have a question or comment, and as per Outschool's rules, we turn our camera on so I can verify the learner.
Learning Goals
The students will learn how to identify, write, and use figurative language in a sentence.
