Young readers are encouraged to dress in sparkly party attire, bring their favorite stuffy, and prepare for a Unicorn Dance Party while practicing the 5 skills of early literacy (reading, writing, singing, playing, and talking) Session will begin with introductions of young learners and their stuffy friends We will learn how to find a unicorn, make a unicorn wand, . Young readers will engage their literacy skills by listening/interacting to a story through music, movement, and...
Students will explore the 5 skills of early literacy: Reading (listening and responding to a story) Writing (drawing/coloring a rainbow) Singing (music and movement) Playing (animating their stuffie friends, pretending to be unicorns) Talking (introducing themselves and their stuffie friends, and sharing their ideas throughout the session) Students will respond and reflect on their experience sharing their thoughts and feelings. Students are encouraged to extend the learning outside of the scheduled session by preparing for the session (gather stuffies, choose and wear their own sUnicorn Party outfit, enjoy decorating cookies or cupcakes with family and share what they learned/did outside of the session)
Prepare for the session: Attend the session dressed for a unicorn party Gather favorite stuffed animal friends (Students will likely have time to introduce only 1-3 friends) Reflect and share after the session: Show the artwork and describe it to a family member Tell a family member about the session decorate cupcakes or cookies with family members
Crayons, Markers, glitter (suggested: glitter glue instead of loose glitter) Sheet of construction paper, printer paper, or other painting surface Wipes or access to sink to clean child’s hand (and crafting area!) after using glitter glue Favorite stuffed animal 1/4 inch dowel Printed PDF (provided in classroom) glue ribbons stickers/other things to decorate a Unicorn Wand
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Miss Rachel loves making connections with each individual child and encouraging engagement at each learners level. Assessment is observed through the session, as well as any additional sessions the learner attends.
