Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner - Advanced Level
This class will be a fun, low-stress environment designed to help girls develop a love for writing by utilizing topics that many girls this age love, like unicorns, fairies, princesses, and mermaids! 🧚‍♀️ 🦄 🧜‍♀️ 👑

Ms. Price believes that learning should be fun, and she will use her skills as a certified teacher to incorporate writing instruction into a fun, interactive class! In addition to developing creative writing skills, learners will enjoy developing their social skills as they interact with and form friendships with other girls from around the world. 🌎

Class Outline:

Each class will start with a time of connection, where learners will get to share one thing of interest with the class. This might be something fun from their week, an accomplishment they are proud to share, or perhaps a toy they have brought to class and would like to share with their friends!

Next, we'll discuss our topic for the week! Topics are learner-led, and will be selected by the group, with guidance from the teacher. Learners will share ideas with one another, then each learner will use their imaginations and draw a picture 🎨 based on the theme of the week. Please note: This is NOT an art class, and learners do not need to have any kind of artistic skills for this class. 😉 The purpose of starting with drawing is it gets those right brain, creative juices flowing! 🧠

After we have drawn our pictures, learners will have the opportunity to share with their peers what they have drawn. They will have the option to show their actual picture to the class or to just verbally describe their drawing (this takes the pressure off of those who are not confident in their artistic abilities). The purpose of this step for students to elaborate on what they have drawn, adding details verbally to what they imagined in their mind and/or put on paper.

Next, Ms. Price will guide the students through a process of taking those creative ideas and putting them on paper in written form. 📝

EXPERIENCE NEEDED: To be successful in this class, learners need to have the ability and confidence to write on their own. There is not guided instruction on the "how to" of writing out stories. Rather, we focus on character development, setting, plot, etc. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation are not necessary. Our focus is coming up with creative stories and getting those stories onto paper!

CLASS SIZE: Class must have at least 3 learners to proceed, as a huge part of the experience is the opportunity for girls to socialize with one another and form friendships as they create magical stories together! Each class will have no more than 8 learners, so that each learner will have adequate opportunities to share and feel heard.

📚 CLASS POLICIES 📚

MUTING: I love a highly interactive class, and I do not require students to be muted in my classes. That said, if there is a lot of background noise going on in a home, I will quietly mute that learner's camera so that other learners are not distracted by the noise. The learner is always welcome to unmute to ask questions or share! If you are attending the class with your learner to assist them with their writing, please be conscientious of muting your learner's device when you are interacting with them to avoid distractions. Thank you!

CLASS RECORDING POLICY: When you pay for one of my classes, you are paying for the LIVE class, just like if this were an in-person class! I do not share recordings of my group classes in order to protect the privacy of all learners (many parents do not feel comfortable with other families having access to videos that include their child). However, you are welcome to reach out if you have specific questions about something covered in class! You are also 100% welcome to attend this class with your child (off screen, per Outschool Policy) so that you are seeing and hearing the same content.

REFUND POLICY: This is a weekly, on-going class. Your weekly payment reserves a spot just for your child! Just like with in-person classes or extra-curricular events, refunds are not given when your child misses class. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, you may un-enroll your learner to open up their spot for another child.

Please note: The themes for this particular class are ones that traditionally girls enjoy, but all learners are welcome in my classes (as long as they are within the correct age range).
